Imagine sisig in a sushi? How about tapa? And instead of the usual California Maki, you'll taste the Manila Maki that's one of the crowd favorite? All of that and more Filipino flavored sushi can be tasted and enjoyed in the newly opened Filipino-Japanese fusion restaurant, Manong Sushi.

According to Chef Paul, who owns Manong Sushi and the one who came up with the concept, the menu and everything, they will soon open their second branch in Laguna, and it's something to watch out for if you're within the area.

They just opened their first branch here Las Pinas just a week before my visit.

DINING AREA

First of all, their place is air-conditioned so you'll know it's going to be a comfortable stay. They have 2-floors of dining space wherein the first floor will already give you the cozy feels.

They incorporated both Japanese and Filipino elements in the overall look of the place which makes it more appealing and cohesive with their concept.

They have a bigger space and another sushi bar on their second floor. This is also where their small private room is located if you prefer a more intimate space while dining. They have comfy seats, especially the ones in front of the bar.

It feels nice to see the staff skilfully make your orders.

FOOD OFFERINGS

As a fan of Japanese dishes especially sushi, this is something that I really look forward to. It's not everyday that I get to taste a filipino flavored sushi, and a few flavors at that!

Manila Maki - Their version of California Maki. Crabstick with chili mayo, mango, cucumber, unagi sauce, ebiko, tanuki and spring onion.

Sushi-Yaki - Fusion of sushi and takoyaki. The toppings is a half of one whole of takoyaki. Other ingredients are unagi sauce, squid, mango, chili mayo, katsuboshi, tagarashi and aunori.

Sushi-Sig - We jokingly called this "pulutan and dinner in one" because of having sisig and rice in one bite. This also has red onion, calamansi, chicharon, togarashi and spring onion.

Sushi-Tapa - Another very pinoy flavor is Sushi-Tapa. Aside from the tapa itself, it has tamago, cucumber, cheez whiz, oniom, crispy garlic, sesame seeds and spring onion.

Sushi-Mares - Their calamares sushi! It has cucumber, red onion, unagi sauce, chili mayo, crispy onion, ebiko and psring onion!

Gyu-Ron - This is their fusion of gyoza and turon. Yep, that looks like a gyoza but inside it is sweet banana and langka like the usual turon. It's cute!

Mochi (Yema and Ube) - We opted for the yema one. It's a bit messy to eat but it's still good.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE

It's honestly an amazing experience. The unique concept and good taste of the food and the comfortable place and ambiance is all I can ask for. For someone like me who came from Quezon City, this is all so worthy of the long ride and traffic!

The staff are also attentive and aporoachable. You won't hesitate to ask for assistance.
